Sutton Valence Primary School is a fully inclusive school and all children are included regardless of their needs. Our committed, supportive and caring community work hard to ensure a whole school ethos of inclusion where:
- All children are actively involved in all activities throughout the day.
- Time out of the class away from peers is minimised.
- Teaching strategies and resources are adapted to ensure equal accessibility to all.
- Discrete adult support is given to promote independent learning, appropriate socialisation and to avoid learnt dependency.
- Opportunities are continually explored for all children to grow in confidence, have a voice and shine.
At Sutton Valence we know that all children learn in different ways so we use different teaching styles, resources and plan different levels of work, along with a range of other approaches. We call this Quality First Teaching.
Our SEND policy and Information document explains our inclusive practice in full.
The admission criteria ranking for Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is as follows:
1. Children in Local Authority Care or Previously in Local Authority Care
2. Children with Education Health Care Plan
3. Current family association (sibling)
4. Distance

Mrs Deane was delighted to attend the ‘This is Me’ training at County hall, Maidstone. Maidstone has been the first district-wide area in Kent for expanding the integrated early intervention service for neurodiversity in schools. ‘This is Me’ (TIM) the new route to referral and diagnosis for neurodivergent young people.
TIM provides schools with further valuable support and tools to help recognise and understand individual strengths and needs of pupils, focusing on neurodivergence. TIM will also provide a community support team to work collaboratively with the family and the school to implement practical strategies to meet their needs.
Our Senco, Mrs. Deane will be happy to engage with those parents wishing to receive the ‘This is Me’ assessment for their children. Please contact the school, office if you’d like to book an appointment.
We recently celebrated Autism Awareness Day at Sutton Valence. The theme was ‘Kindness’ and it was a wonderful occasion! So many children wrote and said kind things to each other and to the adults in school.
We started the day with an amazing assembly by our Neuro Navigators. They explained to Pupils what Autism is and did a short play to highlight the importance of ‘Kindness’. Children and staff participated in engaging activities and wore blue attire to show their support. The event helped to create a welcoming environment, emphasizing the importance of being kind to everyone regardless of their differences.
Our whole school community came together to foster understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day a success! 💙
