English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Irrespective of a child's proficiency in English when they attend school it is important that the school are aware of a pupil's 'first language'.
A pupil's 'first language' is defined as any language other than English that a child is exposed to during early development and continues to be exposed to in the home or community. With this knowledge we can ensure any additional provision in cognitive language development and academic provision are given. We can access specialist support in-house or through specific agencies when necessary.
At Sutton Valence we value and celebrate diversity across our school community and welcome parental support in helping us to value and understand different cultures and traditions.
