Year 3 Ice Magic

admin on: Forest Blog

We explored patterns in ice and generated different words and similes to describe what we saw and felt.

Can you see a silhouette of the London skyline or frosted leaf veins that look like snakes’ skin?

Year 6 KAZOO!

admin on: Forest Blog

This term we are learning to use a knife safely to make a kazoo.

We used wood to make the body of the instrument and learned the push cut and the straight cut.

When we hummed into it, the kazoo brought the sounds of carnival to school.

Enchanted Woodlands and Scented Gardens

Congratulations to Year 1 and Year 2 as your culinary and craft endeavours raised £100 for our chosen charity, Awamu.

What a wonderfully magical journey of the senses. Thank you!

Eco club.

Eco club have been busy checking energy efficiency in classrooms and regularly monitoring energy use.

At this time of year we also have many leaves to collect and these go into our compost areas along with raw food waste and chicken bedding and waste.

We are currently learning about chickens and their senses.

How do their senses compare to humans and how can we enhance their experience once we know more?

We know that chickens like to be clean and comfortable if they are to produce eggs but there is so much that we don’t know.

How do they respond to music?

They like to peck a lot, so do they like it when they have different things to peck?

We’re enjoying this project and rolling with it.

Food for life.

Wow, it’s this time of year again!

Our seasonal shop is open and ready for customers.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the children and their culinary and craft endeavours.

They have been busy cooking with our harvested fruits and vegetables and have learned many cookery skills along the way.

We are currently going for a bronze award – please visit for more info.

All profits go to resources for forest school and also to our friends (via the videos) in Kampala, Uganda, so that they can have a kitchen garden and learn horticultural, business and entrepreneurial skills, as well as feeding many people.

For more information about this exciting new social enterprise project please look at the Awamu website

Awamu means ‘together’ and together we can make a real difference.
