Physical Education (P.E)
At Sutton Valence we place emphasis on the importance of being healthy, active and fit. We encourage pupils to be outside in the fresh air, learning new skills, discovering activities that interest them and working as a team. Over the year we provide sport and skills clubs for pupils to sign up to. Our highlight as usual was the Orchard Run; this year 34 pupils took part in this cross country event.
The PE Curriculum
The National Curriculum requires schools to provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.
Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help embed values such as fairness and respect.
This year teachers have delivered a range of competitive games lessons which have been planned to build on the pupils’ prior knowledge of the skills learnt the previous year. With our funding from the government we have had two coaches from PASS (Physical Activity and Sports Specialists) to deliver the gymnastics and dance sections of the curriculum. These are both areas where teachers have felt that their knowledge and confidence could be developed with expert guidance and support. In term 6 these coaches will upskill teachers on a variety of athletic skills.
These coaches have proved to be very professional in their delivery of lessons and staff have benefited tremendously.
